Hellgate London Review

Game Website: Click Here

System: PC

Game Type: Action RPG

Good: Great storyline, pretty world design, tons of missions, tons of monsters to kill, amazing item system, doesn’t feel like you’re grinding half the time, hilarious voice acting, amazing enemy design, fantastic boss battles, great use of swords in a game, and great co-op

Bad: Weapon design needs improvement, can be clunky if your graphics aren’t on the right settings, does get boring after a while, NO LAN, and it can suck your life away

Score: 87 / 100

Final Thoughts: Honestly, I didn’t want to give this game a chance. I played the demo a while back and thought that it was just another random action RPG. I will tell you now that I was so wrong.

Hellgate London is by far one of the best RPGs you can buy for the PC. Not only did the old Diablo guys have a hand in it, but the vast worlds mixed with an awesome character / item system kept me playing for hours on end. Not to mention how many different classes they have to offer. In fact, I don't think I have ever enjoyed playing a 'caster' as much as I did playing Hellgate.

The story line goes like this: “Set in 2038…a post-apocalyptic London has been overrun by hordes of terrifying demons, leaving the city desolate and scorched by hellfire. Those who were unlucky enough to survive now gather in the only sanctuary left, the Underground, banding together in order to gain a foothold against the minions of darkness and ultimately save the bloodline of humanity.” Thank you Hellgate website.

The bottom line is if you really enjoy a good RPG, then Hellgate is for you. It is a lot like playing an MMO in a singleplayer experience without the grinding plus random transport stargates. Granted, there is some grinding, but it doesn’t feel like it. You usually are doing a mission and the levels just seem to pop up on you. Also, you can play with all your friends online through the co-op campaign mode which is pretty much awesome in my book.

There are tons of missions, an in depth story line, an awesome item system, and hours of action RPG pseudo FPS fun. If you liked Diablo and Zelda, then you will love this. But be warned that it does get repetitive after a while. AND there is no LAN and that is a HUGE turn off. Bad idea flagship...leaving LAN out.
